🌿 I Blame Willie Nelson…
I blame Willie Nelson for a lot of things in my life.
And honestly? I’m not mad about it.
It all started when I was about 8 years old, watching Honeysuckle Rose—that 1980 classic for anyone keeping track.
I didn’t fully understand it at the time, but I knew one thing for sure:
👉 This man is different… and I like it.
There was something about him.
Something real.
Something unpolished.
Something free.
And for a kid growing up in a world full of rules, that energy stuck.
🚛 Mother’s Day Confessions & Slightly Concerning Career Goals
Fast forward a little bit.
It’s Mother’s Day.
One of those “what do you want to be when you grow up?” moments.
And I had it all figured out.
I said:
👉 A truck driver… so I could see the world
👉 OR the driver of Willie Nelson’s tour bus… so I could go to all his shows
Simple. Logical. Visionary, even.
Let’s just say… my teachers were slightly concerned.
But here’s the truth:
Even back then, it wasn’t really about the job.
It was about:
🌱 Freedom
🌱 Movement
🌱 Living life on my own terms
And if you look at it now…
I guess I stayed pretty close to the assignment.
🎶 Farm Aid, Texas & a Whole New World
Then came one of those moments that sticks with you forever.
Farm Aid. Mid-80s. Texas.
I don’t remember the exact year—85? 86? Somewhere in there.
But I remember the feeling.
It was my first time seeing Willie live.
And also…
Let’s just say…
👉 It was my first time realizing people were very comfortable enjoying plants in public 😂
No one was hiding.
No one was whispering.
No one was pretending.
And I remember thinking:
“Wait… are we allowed to do that??”
(At the time: questionable.
Now: a whole different story.)
🌿 The Culture Behind the Music
That moment wasn’t just about music.
It was about realizing something bigger existed.
👉 A culture
👉 A community
👉 A shared understanding
Cannabis wasn’t just something people used.
It was something people connected through.
And even though I couldn’t have fully articulated it back then…
That experience planted a seed.
🔄 Full Circle in Asheville
Fast forward again.
Decades later.
Asheville.
Same friends I’ve known forever.
And there we are… watching Willie Nelson again.
At 88 (or something close to it), he walks out like:
👉 “Let’s go.”
No ego.
No gimmicks.
No shortcuts.
Just 90 minutes of pure, dialed-in magic.
And I remember sitting there thinking:
How is this man still doing this?
How is he still this himself?
And maybe more importantly…
How are we all still here, too?
🌱 Some Things Never Change
Watching Willie then… and now… made something very clear.
Some things don’t change.
🌱 The plant
🎶 The music
🌱 The feeling
What’s changed is everything around it.
What used to be:
- Hidden
- Judged
- Misunderstood
Is now:
- Discussed
- Studied
- Integrated into wellness
But the core of it?
That’s always been the same.
🌿 From Outlaw Energy to Everyday Wellness
Back then, it felt like an “outlaw” culture.
Today, it’s part of everyday life.
At Franny’s Farmacy, we’ve watched that shift happen in real time.
From:
👉 hush-hush conversations
to
👉 open shelves, education, and transparency
From:
👉 confusion
to
👉 clarity and intention
And through it all, one belief has stayed consistent:
👉 Nature works.
👉 Joy matters.
👉 And maybe… we were never the crazy ones.
💚 The Franny’s Farmacy Connection
This isn’t just a story about Willie Nelson.
It’s a story about:
- Trusting your instincts
- Following what feels true
- Staying rooted in something real
That same energy is what built Franny’s Farmacy.
Not “follow the rules because you’re supposed to” energy…
👉 “Follow the truth, even if it takes time” energy
From planting hemp when few others would…
To advocating for the plant…
To building a community around wellness…
It all traces back to that same feeling.
🌿 Why This Story Matters
Because it’s not just my story.
It’s a lot of your stories too.
If you’ve ever:
- Felt ahead of your time
- Questioned what you were told
- Found connection through music or plants
- Or taken a path that didn’t make sense to everyone else
Then you get it.
🌟 Let’s Talk About It
Now I want to hear from you.
👇 Were YOU there?
- Did you go to Farm Aid in the 80s?
• What was your first Willie Nelson concert?
• When was the first time you saw cannabis in the wild? 😏
• And be honest… what was your slightly “outlaw” childhood career goal?
Because the best part of these stories…
Is sharing them.
🌿 Keep the Story Going
