International Women’s Day: Celebrating Franny Tacy, Hemp Advocate & Community Leader

🌸 International Women’s Day: Celebrating a Woman Who Changed the Landscape

Every year on March 8th, the world celebrates International Women’s Day — a moment to recognize the achievements, leadership, and impact of women across every industry.

At Franny’s Farmacy, this day holds special meaning.

Because our company was built by a woman who dared to challenge the system, plant new seeds, and stand up for plant medicine when very few others would.

Franny Tacy is more than the founder of Franny’s Farmacy.

She is a farmer, advocate, community leader, and trailblazer who has helped shape the modern hemp movement in North Carolina and beyond.

And while International Women’s Day gives us a moment to reflect on that impact, we believe something even more powerful:

Women should be celebrated every day.

🌱 From Pharma to Farm: Franny’s Unlikely Journey

Before Franny became known as a hemp pioneer, she spent years working in the pharmaceutical industry.

During that time, she witnessed firsthand how many medicines originated from plants — compounds derived from nature that were later turned into pharmaceuticals.

But she also began asking deeper questions.

Questions about accessibility.
Questions about natural healing.
Questions about why plant medicine was often dismissed or misunderstood.

Eventually, those questions led Franny to make a life-changing decision.

She walked away from her pharmaceutical career.

She purchased land in Western North Carolina.

And she began building something entirely different.

Franny’s Farm.

🚜 Becoming One of North Carolina’s First Female Hemp Farmers

When the Farm Bill opened the door for hemp cultivation, Franny didn’t hesitate.

She stepped forward and became one of the first female hemp farmers in North Carolina in over 75 years.

At the time, the hemp industry was still uncertain.

Regulations were evolving.
Public understanding was limited.
And many farmers were hesitant to take the risk.

Franny took that risk anyway.

She planted hemp with the belief that plant-based wellness had the power to transform lives — and communities.

That belief would soon grow into something much larger.

🌿 Building Franny’s Farmacy

What started as a small farm and wellness vision eventually became Franny’s Farmacy, a brand rooted in transparency, education, and community.

Today, Franny’s Farmacy operates retail locations across Western North Carolina and serves customers nationwide through its online store.

But Franny’s mission has always been about more than selling products.

It’s about creating access.

Access to:

  • plant-based wellness

  • education about hemp and cannabinoids

  • sustainable agriculture

  • ethical cannabis practices

Franny’s Farmacy continues to carry that mission forward every day.

🛡️ Advocacy for Hemp and Farmers

Franny’s influence extends far beyond her farm and retail stores.

She has become one of the most recognizable advocates for hemp farmers and small cannabis businesses in North Carolina.

Over the years, she has:

  • Spoken with lawmakers about hemp policy

  • Participated in national industry panels

  • Worked alongside lobbyists and cannabis attorneys

  • Advocated for fair, balanced regulations

As legislation continues to evolve, Franny remains deeply involved in conversations surrounding the future of hemp.

Her stance is clear:

We need regulation, not prohibition.

This philosophy protects:

  • farmers

  • small businesses

  • consumer safety

  • responsible industry growth

🌊 Leading Through Crisis: Hurricane Helene

True leadership often reveals itself in difficult moments.

In 2024, when Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, the storm impacted businesses, families, and infrastructure across the region.

Franny’s Farmacy’s Merrimon location was forced to close for weeks due to severe flooding and damage.

Employees were displaced.
Homes were damaged.
Communities were shaken.

But Franny did what she has always done in times of challenge.

She stepped up.

Franny’s Farm became a community relief hub, helping serve over 1,000 meals to neighbors and families in need.

Supplies were delivered.
Food was shared.
Community members came together.

It was a powerful reminder that Franny’s Farmacy is not just a business.

It is a community.

💚 Rebuilding Stronger Together

After the storm, Franny’s Farmacy didn’t just rebuild.

It evolved.

The Merrimon location reopened stronger, featuring:

  • local artwork

  • expanded community space

  • wellness events

  • educational gatherings

New initiatives also emerged, including additional wellness programming and expanded retail offerings.

Even through adversity, Franny continued focusing on growth and connection.

🌎 A Woman Changing an Industry

The cannabis and hemp industries have historically been male-dominated.

But women like Franny Tacy are changing that.

Her leadership has helped inspire a new generation of women entrepreneurs, farmers, and advocates to step forward in the plant medicine space.

Franny has shown that success in this industry is not just about business.

It’s about values.

Integrity.
Community.
Education.
Advocacy.

🌸 Why International Women’s Day Matters

International Women’s Day reminds us that progress often begins with individuals willing to challenge the status quo.

Women across the world continue to lead change in:

  • agriculture

  • medicine

  • science

  • entrepreneurship

  • community development

Franny’s journey reflects that same spirit of courage and determination.

But at Franny’s Farmacy, we don’t believe women should only be recognized one day a year.

Women deserve recognition every day.

🌿 Celebrating Women in Wellness

Franny’s Farmacy proudly supports:

  • women-led agriculture

  • women entrepreneurs

  • women in cannabis leadership

  • women building community wellness initiatives

The future of plant medicine is diverse, inclusive, and collaborative.

And women will continue playing a vital role in shaping it.

🌟 Looking Ahead

As the hemp industry continues to evolve, Franny remains committed to:

  • protecting hemp access

  • supporting responsible regulations

  • expanding plant-based wellness

  • uplifting the Asheville community

Her work is far from finished.

The seeds she planted years ago continue to grow.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate Franny Tacy and all the women who are reshaping industries, communities, and wellness traditions around the world.
